The National Repertory Orchestra was founded as the Blue Jeans Symphony in Estes Park, CO in 1960. They moved to Evergreen in 1966 and changed their name to the Colorado Philharmonic. In 1986, finally recognizing the national makeup of the orchestra, they moved to Keystone Resort and changed their name to the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO). In 1992 the NRO chose to relocate to the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge. They now perform in the shadow of the glorious Ten Mile Range, truly an inspired place for making elegant music. Maestro Carl Topilow has been Director and Principal Conductor for the NRO for thirty years. During his time with the orchestra he has brought them to the pinnacle of summer music festival programs. During his tenure the NRO has appeared at the Kennedy Center, the Korean Olympic Festival, and for the visit of Pope John Paul II. He is one of the best at explaining concert music to audiences in a way that enables them to understand and appreciate the music.
For the 2007 season, tickets ranged from $22 to $32. For season tickets to all 13 of the Riverwalk Center NRO concerts, guests pay between $252 and $312. Their season runs from June through August. Special events run throughout the summer, including fundraisers and tie-ins with cultural events. Opening Night at the Cellar was a wonderful event held at The Cellar. It included light food and wine, and a performance by an NRO ensemble, followed by the full orchestral opening concert at the Riverwalk Center. Contact the NRO for information about next years concert series and special events. Make them a part of your summer vacation.
