Whether you want a nice day hike or you are seeking that perfect, vigorous, multi day trek, Breckenridge offers what you need. The city is surrounded by some of the most unimaginable beauty in the world, the rugged, dazzling Rocky Mountains. In the summer, there are flowers, trees and wildlife to amaze. In the winter, the Rockies are truly a winter wonderland, great for shoe shoes, or cross country skiing. The town of Breckenridge has plenty of outfitters ready to help you with the right equipment, and information about the area. If you are a novice, perhaps you might consider a guide. Remember to always register with the forest service before you go into the backcountry.

Trailheads can be accessed right from Main Street, or you can drive in any direction and find more remote trailheads. Many of the trails are designed for horses, and horse tours are available from local providers. There are also technical trails in the near area. Please take precautions if you are not trained for this type of terrain, the Rocky Mountains are among the most intense technical mountains in the world, certainly in the United States. Local professionals can help you if this is your first adventure. There are also bicycle trails, and paths that readily accommodate dogs. Many of these trails lead to Alpine Lakes, beautiful waterfalls, ghost town sites, old mine camps, and even Ute Indian sites. For more information, contact the great outfitters in Breckenridge, or hire one of many local professionals to take you into the backcountry. You will love it!
