In the heart of Breckenridge is the award-winning performing arts facility, the Rainwalk Center. The Rainwalk Center is the venue for almost all summer activities in the town. It was part of the Blue River Restoration Project the town started in 1992. The Riverwalk Center, along with the Blue River walk way and its surrounding native landscape were designed to offer a relaxing, natural setting for picnics, special events or a nice summer afternoon relaxing with the family, enjoying the company of a loved one, or just communing with nature.
Many summer activities take place at the center, including Town Party, Fourth of July concerts, dance troupes and even weddings. It is the home base for the National Repertory Orchestra and the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra. Sometimes the Center sheds its classical skin, and hosts a live jazz concert, or a rock concert. The performance area is a 774 seat amphitheater covered in the summer by a tent structure. For events that require it, the Center can expand capacity to 2000 people by utilizing the lawn area.
Currently, the Center is undergoing a dramatic renovation project. Construction is expected to be completed in time for the opening of the 2008 concert season of the National Repertory Orchestra. The Orchestra expects future concerts to exceed the already incredible performance of previous seasons, mostly due to the improved venue. The location of Riverwalk Center will remain unchanged; however, the center will gain a permanent roof, allowing the venue to be utilized during the cold winter months as well.
