Fishing the Rockies, Breckenridge Trout for Dinner!

Even though the town of Breckenridge is one of the oldest Colorado settlements, the fish are still abundant in the mountain streams and lakes of the Rockies. World class trout fishing is available with only a short trip from any of the resorts in town.

A river may run through it, but you don't need to be the greatest fly-fisherman to land some seriously large trout out of the waters near Breckenridge. Spin fishing is easy enough, and you can even rent equipment in town.

Z-Ray spoons are particularly favored by many of the spin fishing guides that frequent the area, on a light spin tackle setup. The Rainbow trout that live in the Colorado waters are vigorous fighters, so if you are just starting out with your fishing experience, don't go too light! 4 pound test line should suffice, it's easy enough to cast out, and doesn't leave too much of a tell-tale ripple in the water.

A lot of the fish you come up against in the Rockies haven't much experience with angling, so don't be too surprised if you hook a lunker on your first cast!

To get the most out of fishing near Breckenridge, grab a fly rod, and some locally made artificial flies. The outfitting stores will know the best flies to use for each season, and can give you some great advice, too, as far as which lake or stream to hit. Most of the employees at these fine stores are avid fishermen also, don't be surprised if you show up at the pub later, and get to trade fishing stories with them, while your fresh trout is being prepared.

Fresh fish, cold drinks, clean air. Breckenridge delivers it all!
