Breckenridge isnt just a place to go on winter skiing trip. Aside from the hundreds of things to see and do during the winter months, this town also boasts a hearty summer appeal. The town kicks off the summer in style with the 28th annual Breckenridge Film Festival, which will span from June 5th-8th of 2008. If you are planning a summer getaway during the early months, and dont want to suffer through the crowds of larger festivals such as Austins South by Southwest festival, or Utahs Sundance Film Festival, then mark this 2008 date on your calendar.
Hosted each year by Jeffrey Lyons (Hollywood film legend) the festival kicks off in style. Filmmakers of all genres are called to submit entries, but the main focus is on documentaries. Last year featured over 49 original films, with around 11 showings per day. Aside from watching movies, Breckenridge also has lots of other activities to do. If you can find the time to break away from the movies for a day, you can go horse back riding, fishing, rent ATVs, or catch a live band at Sherpa and Yetis bar.
The local resorts, hotels and lodges offer competitive rates during the early part of June to accommodate travelers. Last year The Breckenridge Film Festival special lodging deal offered 2 nights of lodging and a movie pass for only $92 per night. This year they aim to offer a similar deal so that coming to their movie festival wont cost you an arm and a leg. The greatest part about this town is the people and their hospitality. The town claims that once you visit you will want to move in, which is why most visitors dont want to go home once their vacation has ended.
